General Practice New Zealand (GPNZ) is a national membership organisation providing leadership, advocacy and voice for primary care. O mātou moemoeā - Our mission Connecting primary and community care to shape the future of hauora and achieve health equity. O mātou whakakitenga - Our vision A health and care system that supports all people to live well in their communities, delivers best possible care where and when people need it, and will be there for future generations. Ko wai mātou - Who we are Our membership encompasses 24 out of Aotearoa’s 30 Primary Health Organisations (PHOs), covering an enrolled population of more than 4.4m New Zealanders, including more than 80 per cent of the enrolled Māori population. Our member organisations are responsible for providing core primary care services to their enrolled populations, much of it through general practice. They have a strong track record in delivering tailored and targeted services for their communities and in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of general practice and primary care. Initiatives across the country are improving access, quality of care and outcomes for people, particularly in our Māori and Pacific communities, and for people living with complex and long-term conditions. Ko mātou me ngā amokura - Our groups and leadership GPNZ’s five member rōpu - PHO CEOs group; primary care clinical leaders; nursing leads group; data and digital leads group; and Ngā Matapihi o te Wairua (Māori leadership from PHOs) meet regularly, providing collegial support, shared learning and a conduit for advice and information-sharing between primary care and national agencies. The work of GPNZ is overseen by an Executive Committee that draws on the expertise of our member organisations. The Executive is supported by the CEO and a small management team.
