About Generation Next

Generation Next is a coalition of civic, business and education leaders from across Minneapolis and Saint Paul dedicated to closing achievement and opportunity gaps. We use rigorous data analysis and community engagement to identify what works and replicate the most promising practices. Our mission: Generation Next harnesses the community’s knowledge, expertise and actions to ensure every child can thrive. Our vision: Every child has the academic, social and emotional skills to thrive in a globally-fluent world. Generation Next convenes cross-sector partnerships comprised of professionals with expertise in education, relevant community work, children’s programming and services, and philanthropy. Historically, Generation Next has worked under a structure defined by the six cradle-to-career goals of the National StriveTogether™ Network. While this original structure led to significant and important community initiatives, Generation Next has eveolved to do more systems change work. On January 12, 2018, Generation Next unveiled three strategic levers for the partnership: Policy, Practice and Funding. These levers focus the efforts of the coalition to create lasting change in our community by changing the way that education organizations do their work. Generation Next’s goal is to improve education for all students in Minneapolis and St. Paul. However, there are more than just school factors that impact a student’s chance to succeed. Many of our other public systems have an impact on our students such as housing, economic development, safety, nutrition and other supports. The Generation Next coalition is committed to impacting public policy in a collaborative and non-partisan fashion.
