About Geordie Theatre
Founded in 1980, Geordie Productions is one of Canada’s leading professional producers of Theatre for Young Audiences. Its goal is to fire up the imagination, entertain and challenge audiences of all ages. Geordie believes in the power of theatre to encourage dialogue between youths and their parents, their teachers and among their peers, which is why every year the company creates plays which reflect the reality that young people currently live in. The Geordie 2Play School Tour is Canada’s largest running annual theatre tour, lasting 7 months while travelling an average of 27 800 kilometers to perform over 300 performances to more than 60 000 kids. It presents two plays, one for kids and one for teens, in schools and community centres across Eastern Canada, exploring and initiating dialogue about thought-provoking subjects as varied as: bullying; cultural diversity, identity, and other youth specific themes. The Geordie Mainstage Series brings original and engaging theatre productions to Montreal families every season. Praised by children and adults alike, some of these productions then tour abroad to the delight of audiences in Canadian and American cities. The Geordie Theatre School offers kids and teens the chance to explore live performance and the acting process with some of Geordie’s favorite theatre professionals. Each year GTS offers two sessions, one in the fall from September-December and one in the winter from January-May, both of which culminate in a public presentation. Throughout its history, Geordie has retold classic stories, performed wild adventures and spun new myths, always paying close attention to the important role theatre plays in the lives of people of all ages. It works with great artists of many disciplines and varied experiences to create plays that are vibrant and engaging. It looks to constantly reach out to broaden its audience base by bringing productions to as many areas as it can reach.
