About Georgetown Prisons and Justice Initiative
Georgetown University’s Prisons and Justice Initiative was founded in 2016 to respond to the dual crisis of incarceration and recidivism. PJI brings together leading scholars, practitioners, students, and those affected by the criminal justice system to tackle the problem of mass incarceration — one of the most crucial moral and political issues of our time. PJI offers transformative education programs for incarcerated students and returning citizens. Through these programs and through events and research seminars, PJI studies the causes and consequences of the mass incarceration crisis and contributes to bipartisan solutions for effective reform.
