WHAT WE DO: Our award-winning, multi-patented Direct Contact Steam Generation (DCSG) technology unlocks otherwise un-recoverable oil reserves at low carbon intensity by co-injecting a single stream of steam (or hot water) and combustion exhaust gases (CO2 and N2) into heavy oil reservoirs. In thermal oil recovery, high-pressure steam is injected into reservoirs to reduce the oil’s viscosity. The conventional steam generation process creates significant amounts of GHGs, which are then vented to atmosphere. By contrast, GERI’s technology co-injects steam and the associated combustion exhaust gases downhole, simultaneously improving the efficiency of oil recovery (by adding heat AND pressure AND viscosity reducing CO2), and mitigating the atmospheric release of GHGs, permanently storing much of the CO2 in the reservoir.
