In the middle of the first year of the pandemic—June 2020, Sia Papageorgiou in Melbourne, Australia, and Georgia Patrick in Texas, USA met through their mutual connections with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). Our discussions quickly turned to weekly calls about shared experiences and concerns for professionalism, business communication, and exceptional leaders. What we discovered over the course of many hour-long weekly chats, provided us with a cascade of realizations that fit our uniqueness and individual purpose. We are complex and curious, and we discovered that what is “wrong” with us, is exactly what is “right” with us. We are gifted adults who are among the 95% of us who never knew it until someone proved it to us. It took a while to accept the term “gifted” because that felt strange. Instead, our research led us to experts who already figured out much about gifted adults and even gave it a better name—rainforest mind. Just to clarify, “gifted” in this context doesn’t mean profoundly brilliant – we mean everyday people of unusual vision, who share a dominant trait – their ability to give progress a push forward.
