About Gigaton CO2
Gigaton CO2 is dedicated to the development of technology that can capture and utilise CO2 in gigaton quantities from fossil fuel sources and the atmosphere. We currently have patents pending on two technologies as described below: CO2 ENERGY GRID BATTERY NETWORK Gigaton CO2 have developed a method of utilising CO2 from CCUS and turning it into a giant battery capable of providing enough power to ultimately supply the entire Global Energy grid for at least 8 hours per day by 2050. This technology takes large quantities of captured CO2 and pressurises it until it is liquid (or supercritical). This CO2 is stored in existing fossil fuel pipelines and caverns which could form an interconnected network covering anything from small geographical areas right up to countries and continents in the future where the CO2 can be moved around to wherever it is needed. The use of compressed gases to generate electricity is old technology as is manipulating the phase change of liquid to gas but what makes this unique and very exciting is the scale in which this can be deployed using largely existing infrastructure along with some clever manipulation of exactly what pressures to use to maximise results and the fact that CO2 is a very nice molecule to use as it has a high potential energy store at fairly modest pressures. DIRECT WATER CAPTURE (DWC) We have also developed Direct Water Capture (DWC), a method of carbon capture that removes CO2 from any type of water source including both fresh and seawater. By removing and storing the dissolved CO2/ Carbonate we allow the water sources to absorb more CO2 from the air which helps regain planetary equilibrium. We are keen to license our technologies to customers and assist them in designing an optimized system directly relevant to their application and to offer ongoing support in the field.
