About Girls Health Period
Girls Health Period was originally found in September 2018, with one goal in mind: to eliminate girls' absenteeism in school due to their menstrual cycles. Absenteeism of young women in schools due to challenges in accessing the proper resources and guidance, while maneuvering through their menstrual cycles, continues to be an obstacle in adequate and proper education attainment - and it shouldn’t be. Over 35% of girls either leave school early or miss school entirely because they do not have access to proper and adequate period or menstrual care products. As a result, 18% are not graduating high school and are not prepared for college. Since inception, our focus has been local, partnering and collaborating with middle schools and high schools across the Cincinnati Tri-State area. Additionally, we've aligned with local group homes for girls and young women to provide menstrual care products and support. We even partner with local universities and small businesses to provide product. On March 13, 2019, Girls Health Period excitingly became an official 501(c)(3), further cementing our mission. Through our own personal collections, fundraisers and generous gifts and donations, we're been able to provide girls and young women with name brand pads with wings, tampons and underwear to girls-size 6 to women-size 24. At Girls Health Period, we curate safe and comfortable spaces for girls and young women to engage in conversations about their menstrual cycles and personal hygiene. As we work tirelessly to continue to further grow our mission, we realize that we can't do this alone. We continue to partner and collaborate with local organizations and businesses to share our mission and ethos. We want to ensure that we can help as many girls and young women as possible, to stay in school so they can reach their full potential and grow in confidence. Here at Girls Health Period, we're stopping the cycle now – one pad at a time.
