About Girls Make Games Scholarship Fund
While women make up nearly half the gaming population, less than 24% of game developers in the US are women. Girls Make Games was founded in 2014 to address this gender gap and create a space for girls to explore the world of video games. To date, over 23,000 girls in nearly 150 cities and 20 countries have accessed our workshops, summer camps, and tutorials. GMG's published titles have been downloaded nearly 180,000 times on our partner platforms like PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Creators Program, Steam and Google Play. Through the journeys of our alumni we’ve witnessed the gaps that exist from school through to college. There's both a lack of community, as well as funding to provide access to degrees that would lead to careers in games. That’s where the Girls Make Games Scholarship Fund comes in, to provide additional educational access combined with financial assistance ages 8 through to 24. Through the Scholarship Fund we will: - Expand our scholarship program for summer camps & workshops to reach girls most at risk of marginalization - Provide need-based college tuition scholarships for young women interested in pursuing game development - Establish mentorship & internship placement programs to help our alumni succeed in the games industry We’re investing in the talent for game development and STEAM from an early age, ensuring that girls have every chance to achieve their ambitions and have fun at the same time! Join us in our ambition to reach a million girls and women through the magic of game development - starting with 100,000 students by 2026.
