About Girls on the Run of Southeastern Wisconsin
Girls on the Run of Southeastern Wisconsin inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based positive youth development (PYD) program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to successfully navigate life experiences. The program’s intentional curriculum places an emphasis on developing competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution in young girls through lessons that incorporate running and other physical activities. The life skills curriculum is delivered by caring and competent coaches who are trained to teach lessons as intended. Established in 2007, Girls on the Run of Southeastern Wisconsin is an Independent Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of 200+ locations across the United States and has served over 1.5 million girls throughout its twenty-one year history. Girls on the Run of Southeastern Wisconsin serves over 2,200 girls annually in grades 3-8 spanning seven counties including, Milwaukee, Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee, Racine, Kenosha & Walworth. Program goals of life skills learning and social, psychological, and physical development are achieved through the efforts of trained volunteer coaches each year. Girls on the Run hosts two 5K events per year, the culminating goal of the 10-week curriculum. Girls on the Run of Southeastern Wisconsin has served over 10,000 young girls and their families over its 16-year history.
