About Global Deaf Research Institute

The Global Deaf Research Institute’s primary impact is through data collection and valorization. Our primary goal is to begin to address the current widespread lack of data on deaf populations disaggregated from global disability data. While our end goal is the improvement of deaf quality of life worldwide, our mechanism of action is to facilitate deaf-serving organizations around the world in achieving their objectives utilizing the data we collect, while promoting community-based participatory research practices. We will identify and, in our first phase of deployment, meet extensively with local deaf organizations in each deployment country to adjust our quality of life survey to center their ongoing initiatives. The following phase is spent deploying our survey, with the final phase being used for training, capacity-building programs, and education based on our findings to empower local individuals and deaf organizations to advocate for their rights and promote self-representation. We will maintain lasting connections with these organizations and where invited, assist with grant applications and interfacing with governments where necessary. In keeping with our organization’s policy to center and support the communities we are studying, we will bolster the local deaf ecosystem, where possible, by hiring local deaf businesses for supporting services during the deployment of our research.
