About Glof II Pakistan

GLOF-II is a continuation of the four year GLOF-I project, which helped vulnerable communities prepare for and mitigate GLOF risks through early warning systems, enhanced infrastructure and community-based disaster risk management. GLOF-II builds on the measures piloted by GLOF-I and aims to empower communities to identify and manage risks associated with GLOFs and related impacts of climate change, strengthen public services to lower the risk of disasters related to GLOF and improve community preparedness and disaster response. GLOF-II will also support the development of sustainable options for livelihoods in project areas, with a particular focus on the participation of women in ensuring food security and livelihoods. Moreover, the project will strengthen sub-national institutional capacities to plan and implement climate change and disaster-resilient development pathways, develop the capabilities of local level institutions to incorporate climate change adaptation considerations into development plans in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. While GLOF-I covered two districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB), GLOF-II expands its coverage to include fifteen districts, directly benefiting 696,342 people of Pakistan.
