About Go Shawn Go Foundation
You never think it will happen to you—until it does. In 2016, I moved to Oregon with my then-girlfriend, now wife, Kierra. Life was good. But by 2018, something was off. While working out, I couldn't push myself like before. In 2019, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). I thought I'd lose my athleticism but could still live a full life. By 2021, everything had changed. Kierra and I moved back to Rochester with our newborn daughter, Margo. I was diagnosed with Progressive MS and could no longer hide my limp. I distanced myself from communities I once belonged to, thinking, Remember me as I was, not as I am. On April 21, 2024, an MS flare left me completely paralyzed from the neck down for seven days. I spent 33 days in rehab, relearning basic functions. When discharged, doctors said I would never walk again. My doctor explained that with Primary Progressive MS, I likely wouldn't survive more than three more years. That was in May 2024. (I plan to beat that timeline.) With support from family and friends, I'm reaching back to my communities to share my story and help other families facing similar circumstances. The Go Shawn Go Foundation supports families where a member has been impacted by life-threatening disability. We organize fundraising events to provide equipment and adaptive accessories, making life more accessible and fulfilling. We make dreams come true for these families. Together, we can transform the impossible into possible, one family at a time.
