Floatation Therapy center opened in 2018 in Downtown Burlington with 4 Float Tanks. A float tank (also known as sensory deprivation tank or isolation tank) is like an enclosed bathtub with a door that never locks, filled with a water solution saturated by 1000 lbs of Epsom salt. More buoyant than the Dead Sea, you effortlessly float inside the tank which is body temperature-regulated, soundproof and lightproof to reduce all sensory input. The purpose of floating in a warm, quiet and dark environment? To give your body and mind the reaction to a lack of external stimulation - complete rest. The deep relaxation achieved through floating allows the body to recover from stress by reducing stress-related hormones like cortisol. It relieves you of chronic pain. Blood flows more efficiently and uninterrupted throughout your muscle tissue. Endorphins are the “feel-good” chemicals that are naturally released, similar to when exercising. Brain-wave activity is lowered to the theta state which usually takes people years to achieve through meditation - but floating gets you there effortlessly.
