About Good Bones Financial Coaching
Hi - My name is Bethel and I'm the founder of Good Bones Financial Coaching. In a past life, I was an audio documentarian and made stories for Radiolab, This American Life and more. But in summer 2024 I decided to use my explanatory abilities and probing interviewing skills toward another mission: Helping people—especially fellow millennials—overcome their aversion to money, get out of debt and spend more consciously. I passed my Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) exam in November 2024 and launched Good Bones Financial Coaching in December 2024. In my signature program—"The Good Bones Money Edit"—I help individuals explore their relationship with money, gain clarity around their finances, and develop sustainable plans for their spending and saving habits, all in a supportive and compassionate coaching environment. I root my practice in the fundamental belief that our net worth is not a measure of our self worth, that getting a clear sense of our numbers can bring us peace (even if we aren't exactly where we want to be) and that our time, energy and financial resources should feed our present and our futures within our means and dreams. I am pleased to be applying my philosophy B.A. and helping individuals live "examined" lives and using my journalism skills to help people understand their finances (no stupid questions!), honor their unique history with money and help them design a customized path forward. I'm still gaining experience hours (200 down, 800 to go!) and I'm offering discounted rates for new clients. In addition to building my practice, I write about the human side of personal finances—including the story of how I paid off nearly $60,000 in student loans on a public media salary while grieving—in my Substack, Deconstructing Money.
