About Good Vibrations charity

Good Vibrations is a charity working across the UK in partnership with prisons, young offender institutions, secure hospitals and community organisations. We support people through communal music-making and believe in the power of the arts to transform lives. Our vision is of a safer and more-empathetic UK, where vulnerable people, including those convicted of offences, are given the chance to become valued members of society, and to forge fulfilling, constructive lives. Our communal music-making projects are all about listening, communicating, working as a team, problem solving and reflecting. They are accessible, and don’t require musical experience. We particularly like to work with the Indonesian gamelan as it is so accessible, engaging, versatile and well-suited to collaboration and confidence-building. Being holistic and person-centred is at the heart of our approach. Our projects are about relationships – between participants and facilitators, between members of the group, and the relationship each participant has with themselves. We facilitate, rather than teach. This creates safe spaces and gives participants ownership of their work, which has a transformative effect. We value participants’ life experiences. We listen to how we can better support them and act on what they say. We are continually improving participant influence and representation at all levels of the organisation.
