About Governor's Committee on Scholastic Achievement
GCSA’s mission is to mentor and grant scholarships to degree-aspiring, underserved New York City students who navigate systemic barriers to educational success. With GCSA, students build a community of support so they launch and complete postsecondary programs of their choice. We partner with public high schools that have insufficient postsecondary planning resources for the intersectional needs of New York City’s diverse student population. To fill their gaps, at each school we form small GCSA communities and offer postsecondary planning, career exploration, and one-on-one mentoring from 10th through 12th grade. GCSA then provides a $9,000 scholarship over four years for each student’s continued education in addition to ongoing postsecondary advising and community-building. Through a long-term and objective-driven model, GCSA creates a fun and safe space for young people to learn about themselves and pursue aspirational goals. We activate a web of support for each student that includes family, peers, in-school staff, and a dedicated volunteer mentor, with GCSA staff as advisors, advocates, and cheerleaders. At GCSA, we take pride in creating pathways for underserved students to dream big, take meaningful steps toward their aspirations, and transform ambitions into reality. We invite partners, alumni, and supporters to connect with us, fostering a strong community and lasting impact. The achievements of our students reflect the heart of our mission, and we are honored to celebrate their successes and inspire future generations.
