About Gowanus Augmented Reality Walking Tour
The Gowanus Augmented Reality Walking Tour is a smart phone app designed and built by Sarah Drury and Lucas Wozniak. The Tour offers a sensory-rich location-based AR experience through the camera view of smart devices. Visitors are introduced to significant sites and stories along the Canal, as told by an animated hydrological persona who bears witness to the centuries of agricultural, industrial and urbanized hardening of the great Salt Marsh into its current form. Freely mixing the rapidly changing sightlines of Gowanus with animation, text, audio and haptics, the app zooms into various processes of transformation, from the microscopic to the speculative. The Gowanus AR Walking Tour is a hybrid experience of situated storytelling that invites the visitor to make connections between the past, the present and where things are or could be going. THE GOWANUS AUGMENTED REALITY TOUR App Development Team Sarah Drury, Concept, Design and Project Director Lucas Wozniak, XR Designer and Programmer Guy Barash, Composer and Sound Design Alma Hutter, Research and Administration Ashwin Fulfagar, AR and Digital Production Intern The Gowanus Augmented Reality Walking Tour has been funded in part by the Brooklyn Arts Fund, the Puffin Foundation, and Temple University.
