About Grace Street Services
GRACE STREET SERVICES, located in Lewiston and Portland, Maine is an addiction/mental health recovery group that suggests a narrative practice that never separates healing from social justice. We are a company of fellow travelers who have a map or two that may aid others on their recovery journey. We design welcoming space, both in our language and design intent. We believe that recovery from the empty desolation of addiction is crafted by the storyteller and the larger community narrative. The task is about re-framing. It begins by creating a safe place for people who often have few safe places. The poetry of recovery opens space that with boldness and grace can move to place and belonging. Our language, art, and practice suggest that people are hungry for redemptive stories; for language that elevates rather then diminishes and shames. Addiction – Mental Health Treatment — Creating Environments of Hope and Dignity. The work of sobriety is the task of finding meaning, purpose, joy, and satisfaction in life without the searing anesthesia of active addiction. How that happens is as unique to each person as snowflakes on a winter night. One of the benefits of a storytelling community is the way it can be turned into a narrative that designs welcoming space both in it’s language and it’s design intent. Grace Street provides graceful, dignity oriented sanctuary anchored in the heart of community.
