My name is Matthew Schwarz; I’m the founder of Grade Stake Solutions and the inventor of the Grade Stake Pro, which removes the risk of human error from manually checking grades off of grade stakes. I’m also a foreman for a heavy equipment company specializing in road construction and reconstruction. A critical part of our work is establishing precision cuts, fills, and all possible elevations from the bottom of the 12-inch prep to the Top of the Curb or final grade. Errors in the grading process can add up to tens of thousands of dollars vanishing from your bottom line. Even with the best GPS technology, I’ve found significant depth variances in work that, if not caught, could cause substantial material waste and rework. The only way to catch these problems before they cost you money is through regular, manual checking of grades off grade stakes. Historically, the accuracy of manual checking for grades off of grade stakes is at risk from human error, such as using incorrect math, conversions, or using the wrong project data for variables like rock or concrete depth. My Grade Stake Pro application has proven to remove human error from the process while enabling workers to complete the task faster. This app allows you to centrally control the known variables for each job and endless sub-areas within a job site with different values. The Grade Stake Pro application is simple to set up, learn, and put to use: 1) Create a job and define the concrete, curb, and rock depths 2) On-site workers access the app on a mobile device and enter the grade stake info, cut/fill, and value. 3) The application then returns the results for all possible elevations from the bottom of the 12-inch prep to the Top of the Curb/final grade.
