About Great Cape Adventures
Great Cape Adventures breaks the current mould of punishing ocean racing, where crews sign up for months of militaristic rigour. Neither a race nor a test of endurance, we combine sailing with an adventure holiday. Aimed at novices and experienced sailors alike, we offer a unique opportunity to make real ocean passages at latitudes beyond the scope of most skippers and vessels. Great Cape Adventures has four adventure voyages that take place around the world aboard a 50ft steel cutter. Voyage 1 begins in Falmouth (UK) and follows the old clipper route to Australia via Rio and Cape Town. None of the four trips should be thought of merely as legs but rather as carefully crafted modern-day voyages of discovery, in the footsteps of the maritime heroes of old such as Cook, De Gamma and Drake. There are ‘Big Ocean’ passages across some of the most spectacular parts of the planet, way beyond the range, budget and scope of most private yachts as well as stopovers in exuberant, sophisticated cities like Rio de Janeiro, obscure paradise archipelagos such as Fernando de Noronha, and sub Antarctic wilderness in the Kerguelen islands, and that is just voyage 1. Put these ingredients together and you can see that we have a truly unbeatable package. We are looking for sailors and travelers of all kinds but their minimum qualifications should include Royal Yachting Association (RYA) competent crew, plus compulsory attendance of training exercises in the summer.
