About Greater Newark LifeCamp

LifeCamp provides an enriching summer day camp experience for approximately 300 Newark area children daily for six weeks during the months of July and August. Campers are between the ages of 6 and 13, and come from the greater Newark public school system, Fresh Air Fund, Boys & Girls Club of Newark as well as from Newark Charter School Programs. Students take buses daily from Newark to Pottersville, NJ where LifeCamp is located. The LifeCamp campus is located on 90 acres of open fields, rolling hills, woodlands and the Lamington River. The campus is an effective teaching environment that makes learning enjoyable by providing experiential and contextual learning linked to the camp’s curriculum. We empower youth to succeed and excel in life by developing life skills, character and leadership through a summer enrichment program outside of an urban environment. Our programs, including nature, swimming, graphic design, bicycle riding, computer education, values, dance, drama, percussion orchestra, chess/strategy games, publishing, ropes course and reading, provide a unique opportunity for children to stretch their talent and imagination in a way few other summer camp programs can match. Former campers are hired as staff, indirectly allowing us to track historical success of former campers as they move through high school, college, and then into the workforce. The overall LifeCamp program balances the arts, athletics and academic enrichment as well as personal growth and development which is designed to help Newark’s youth become more confident in their abilities, improve their self-esteem, and develop greater autonomy and leadership qualities.
