About Green Block Project
Our mission to empower communities with the resources to build and maintain short-term community gardens on unused land throughout the United States as well as workshops on micro gardens, food preservation and food preparation. Green Block Project created an innovated temporary fruit and vegetable community garden model. Taking a “seed to harvest” approach, first by identifying unused or deteriorating plots of land, then by obtaining permission from property owners to plant the gardens for at least 4 years, and by gaining approval and assistance from neighboring residents and government to cultivate the land. Once all approvals are received, the community will begin clearing, preparing, planting, tending the gardens and harvesting the produce. Green Block Project micro garden workshops are open to anyone, we develop a planter container made from re-purposing PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles into self-feeding planter container, and these planters’ containers reduce the carbon foot print of the plastic. Also all are low maintenance, water conservative and are space saving. Green Block Project will benefit all involved, by educating residents about fresh fruits and vegetable, by fostering a sense of community between neighbors, and by establishing goodwill between residents and the businesses in the area.
