The registered company directors (Rupert Granville, Tim Simpson, Joseph Mann and Hugh Foster) started working on our Ethical Burial project in 2020 and are incredibly passionate about the issues and ethics that underpin an environmentally responsible and principle-led burial ground. This subject affects us all on so many important levels and forms a significant part of the legacy that we hand to our children. Green Burial Holdings is the company that manages our ethical burial sites. We sell burial plots, caskets, woollen shrouds, and trees native to the area. Our site is located in a beautiful setting that our customers can be assured will be managed following our ethical principles in perpetuity. An ethical burial is a way of burying human remains that seeks to have a positive environmental impact. The idea behind ethical burial is to allow the body to decompose naturally without using embalming fluids, hardwood or any other material or chemical that can harm the environment. As cremation is inherently bad for the environment, ethical burial does not permit the scattering or interment of ashes. Typically the body is wrapped in a biodegradable shroud or placed in a biodegradable casket made of wicker, bamboo, wool, or cardboard. The burial site is in a natural setting, such as a meadow or forest, rather than a traditional cemetery. Ethical burials may also involve planting native trees, shrubs, or wildflowers on the burial site to create a natural memorial.
