About Green Spark

Green Spark is a Malawian grassroots movement backed up by the Germany charity Green Spark e.V. We aim for a sustainable life for Malawian communities around Nkhata Bay. > We combine the best of two worlds: green trends from industrial countries meet African wisdom and tradition. > We are the change that we wish to see in the world: we lead by example, teach through hands-on activities and spread green ideas. > We ignite, involve and inspire not only our community in Nothern Malawi but as well our supporters in the industrial world. FIRST PROJECT: planting 7,000 moringa trees in 2019 The moringa trees will improve the health of the communities and generate income for the families. Leaves and seeds that won’t be used by the communities will be bought off by Green Spark and turned into other products. SECOND PROJECT: fighting malaria with artemisia Malaria is spread all over Malawi. Especially in rural areas with lack of access to medical treatment and malnourishment malaria often ends deadly. The special type of sweet wormwood, the Artemisia Annua Anamed (A3), contains the highest number of beneficial compounds. A tea made with the dried A3 leaves can cure malaria and save many lives. THIRD FOCUS: reducing plastic pollution Malawi is located at the second biggest lake of the African continent which is the habitat for over 600 endemic fish species. Plastic pollution is not only an issue for the oceans. It is a threat for lakes, too. Green Spark spreads the love for ecobricks. An Ecobrick is a reusable building block created by packing clean and dry used plastic into a plastic bottle to a set density.
