About Groundswell Design Group

Groundswell Design Group is a full service design firm specializing in placemaking, public space and hospitality. Our projects range in scale from large public parks, land art installations, restaurants and distilleries, to intimate cafés and pop-up activations. We specialize in creating a sense of place within each project and move from interior design to exterior landscape with ease, creating a seamless connection between the two. From the initial design phase through final build-out and installation, our approach to design is 100% holistic and hands-on. Each project's process is specially tailored to the site, drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, neighborhood and community to create a unique lifestyle and atmosphere. David Fierabend launched the practice in 2006 after a 16-year career investing in central business districts along the Eastern Seaboard. Groundswell has grown from employing one individual to a vast array of landscape architects, designers, artists, builders and craftspeople who are the top experts in their field. This team shares a passion to not only create and inspire, but to design, develop and build projects that forge positive change. From a bustling winter market in Detroit fashioned to promote business for local vendors to a vodka distillery filled with laughing friends and family over looking the San Francisco Bay, our group’s mission is to drive place-making forward. Some of our current project locations include: Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Memphis, San Francisco, Detroit, Akron, Princeton, Tampa and Ireland.
