About Growing Space

Growing Space is an environmental education non-profit that is transforming urban green spaces into edible teaching gardens for nearby schools and the wider community. Our aim is to give more people in our community access to direct interaction with nature, inspiring a deeper appreciation and a greater sense of responsibility for our environment. Through our gardens, we provide the local community with opportunities to grow food and take part in outdoor learning activities. We engage young people in growing food and educate them by providing diverse garden-based learning across the KS1 and KS2 curriculum. Our goal is to improve understanding about where food comes from and how it is grown, while establishing garden care by setting up a school garden with comprehensive planning, achievable goals and simple tasks. We inspire positive, healthy eating habits and give children a chance to sample the fruits of their labour. Our diverse gardening team ensures that we fully represent our community. We are based in Kensington and Chelsea, where we are uniquely positioned to connect schools, which enjoy little or no outdoor space, with local churches whose gardens are either underused or could be more creatively shared. What We Offer: Gardening Activities - we introduce children to the world of plants, teach them the basics of gardening, and explore the impact of gardens on our senses. Outdoor Fun & Forest School - we offer forest school activities, such as building dens and other structures, cooking on open fires, imaginative play and games, creating handcrafts from natural materials, using tools including secateurs, hand drills, saws, and much more.
