About Growing the Grassroots

Growing the Grassroots uses a bottom-up approach to empower rural farmers with modern agriculture practices. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, hands-on education to initiate sustainable development from the grassroots level. Growing the Grassroots is bringing Norman Borlaug’s “Green Revolution” strategies to Africa. These strategies combine high-yielding seed varieties with modern agricultural production techniques. Growing the Grassroots works with local, trusted staff to maintain best practices and carry out our projects in ways that align with the culture of Sierra Leone. Our education program will teach local FBO's (farm-based organizations) on our farm from seed selection to planting to storing and selling yields. After graduating from the Growing the Grassroots education course, we will provide micro-loans in the form of inputs for them to practice our methods on their own farms.
