About GU Liner Systems
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT BY HORST GUGGEMOS – AUSTRIA In 1966, Horst Guggemos began his career as an engineer in a planning firm designing water and sewer structures for communities. During his 20 years with that company one of the many tasks Mr. Guggemos was involved with required him to inspect these projects on the jobsites. When Mr. Guggemos saw a desperate need, he began inventing solutions to the many unacceptable construction methods that inundated the market at that time. Mr. Guggemos’ inventions created a great change in quality to the sanitary sewer occupation. In a very short time many of the cities and communities began designing sanitary sewers with GU inventions. In 1974, Horst Guggemos invented a prefabricated channel lining system for the manhole base made of glass fiber reinforced polyester (GRP). This was a great solution in lieu of contractors creating channels on the jobsite. More than 100,000 GRP channels were produced until 1981 when a new generation of liners, also invented by Horst Guggemos, began. The GU MANHOLE BASE LINER replaced the GRP channel lining system. On the contrary to the first design which was intended mainly for contractors to install, the new design catered to the precasters producing an industrial quality prefabricated manhole. The newly designed liner not only protected the manhole channel from erosion and/or corrosion, but also preserved the benching giving rise to the possibility for complete protection of the manhole structure. Horst Guggemos opened his civil engineering company in 1987, setting forth with the same quality and standards as he did when he was an employee. A growing number of communities began to put the GU LINER SYSTEMS into their specification requiring a corrosion resistant lined concrete structure. In 1997, Horst Guggemos opened two facilities producing GU MANHOLE BASE LINERS and other related components in Sarasota, Florida (USA) and in Vancouver, B.C. (Canada).
