About Gulf Comparative Education Society

The GCES is an academic society that was formed in 2009 to enable comparative and professional discourse on educational issues in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. The Society aims to promote and develop collaborative and individual research activities that explore educational issues by hosting a series of annual conferences and workshops surrounding context-specific educational issues in the Gulf region, connecting academics, policymakers, educators and others through symposia and an online forum, and providing members with access to conference resources and publications. The bilingual, open-access journal Gulf Education and Social Policy Review (GESPR) seeks to support scholarship in the region, addressing the dissemination gap and encouraging critical, data-driven reflection and evaluation, of the myriad factors and rapid reforms shaping the Gulf’s developmental and education landscapes. The journal supports emerging regional academics, presents the Gulf region as a fruitful area of study for established international scholars, and penetrates the silos of different educational actors to inform best practices and agendas worldwide. In line with this, the journal provides publishing support for local and regional conferences, including biannual meetings of the Gulf Comparative Education Society.
