About Gulf Drilling International
Gulf Drilling International Limited (GDI) was established in May 2004 as a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Japan Drilling Company (JDC), making it the first Qatari offshore and onshore oil and gas drilling company in Qatar. A decade later, on 1st of May 2014, Gulf International Services (GIS), acquired all remaining JDC shares, increasing its stake in GDI to 100%. In the last two decades till date, GDI has successfully acquired 12 Offshore Jack-up Rigs; 7 Onshore rigs; and 3 Lift Boats. The company’s diversified fleet is equipped with cutting-edge technology to meet the needs of both traditional and emerging offshore and onshore energy markets. As Gulf Drilling International recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, the company has now also become the largest jack-up operator in Qatar upon acquiring three jack-up rigs from Seadrill Holdings in the Gulf Drill Joint Venture. GDI’s newest rigs are Al Bidda (previously known as West Castor); Mesaieed (previously known as West Telesto); and Laffan (previously known as West Tucana). GDI’s onshore and offshore rigs continue to break record milestones for themselves by completing years without recordable incidents and lost time injuries. With a focus on operational excellence, GDI has developed a reputation for consistently completing projects on time, on budget, and with zero incidents.
