About Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Program

The Gunung Palung Orangutan Program's mission is to protect orangutan populations and forest biodiversity in and around Gunung Palung National Park through community-led conservation initiatives. Recognizing that the wellbeing of humans, wildlife, and the environment are inextricably linked, we take a Planetary Health approach to address the needs of all three. Together with our Indonesian partner organization, Yayasan Palung, we strive for a world where orangutans are safe because their forest homes are stewarded by human communities that are strong and empowered. Our programs include scientific research on the behavior and biology of wild orangutans, Sustainable Livelihoods, Village Forests, Animal Protection, and Environmental Education.
