We all benefit from scientific progress. Medicine and technology allow us to live longer and healthier than any generation before us. Modern technologies make our everyday lives easier and bring us into contact with people and ideas from all over the world. The enlightened-rational view of the world takes away ancient fears and lets us marvel enthusiastically at things that were still inexplicable or completely unknown to our ancestors. Science and rational-critical thinking are the only reliable methods with which we can objectively and verifiably explore our world and explain it in a comprehensible way. The pandemic has once again clearly underscored the enormous importance of science in safeguarding our health and prosperity - and at the same time highlighted how important communication about science is for its trust in society. Our 2,000 members from a variety of backgrounds and professions are committed to this, including many from disciplines such as medicine, psychology, biology and physics. However, a degree is not a requirement for joining us - we are open to all people who are passionate about science and critical thinking. Since 1987, we have been recognized as a non-profit organization for our contribution to popular education. Four times a year we publish the quarterly magazine "Skeptiker", invite to (virtual) lectures and congresses and inform the public about developments in science, health care and society that are both encouraging and worthy of criticism.
