Hala Yousif’s textile artistry is a vibrant tapestry woven from the rich influences of her life journey, spanning her birthplace, Iraq, and her adopted homes in Sweden and the Netherlands. Her early work is deeply rooted in Iraqi heritage, drawing inspiration from folklore, the ancient civilizations of Babylon, Sumer, and Assyria, as well as the intricate beauty of Islamic art. In Iraq, she adorned clothing with swirling patterns in warm, bright colors, reflecting the richness of her cultural origins. Her relocation to Sweden marked a transformative phase in her artistic vision. - The vivid clarity of Nordic skies and the stark contrast of Sweden’s natural palette captivated her. - The ice, snow, and dramatic shifts in temperature presented a stark yet inspiring departure from her familiar environment. - Minimalist color schemes and the interplay of sunlight on reflective surfaces such as ice and snow introduced a new aesthetic dimension to her designs. These experiences, combined with the textures and patterns of Assyrian and Sumerian art that remained vivid in her memory, led to the creation of a distinctive design language with luxury.
