Handheld Tours is a multimedia self-guided tour creation company specialising in developing interactive interpretive experiences for museums, outdoor attractions, historic homes, heritage sites, villages, towns, cities and the countryside throughout the UK. The company was founded with a simple aim: to transform the self-guided tour market by delivering an exceptional visitor experience. We employ an alignment based focus on delivering an organisations visitor experience, access, educational and interpretation objectives. In action, this means leveraging what was previously an elusive promise of technology convergence into a game-changing reality, creating an unprecedented opportunity to realise key aims and objectives by: - encouraging wider use of villages, towns, cities and the countryside - increasing community participation in local heritage to enhance appreciation, including developing new audiences and involving hard-to-reach groups - increasing understanding about the importance of the built and natural heritage and the role it plays in people’s lives to enhance enjoyment, use and make its conservation more viable - promoting and encouraging both physical and intellectual access, being as inclusive as possible, removing the navigation and interpretation barriers to access which prevent or discourage people from becoming actively engaged - raising awareness about the importance of landscape heritage, increasing volunteering, historical education as well as the threats it faces, and the steps that can be taken to protect it We believe we can deliver something truly transformational, creating greater engagement with the digital savvy, bringing in new visitors who stay longer, use local amenities and recommend the experience to friends and family.
