About Hands Of Mothers

Hands of Mothers (formerly Manos de Madres) is a Memphis-based 501(C)3 nonprofit that works in partnership with the Rwanda NGO, Hands of Mothers Rwanda to empower vulnerable women and youth through education and economic development. Since 2009, Hands of Mothers have provided and/or funded literacy, vocational and entrepreneurship training and microloans to women living with HIV, many as the result of genocidal rape. We currently work with over 135 women, organized into productive Savings and Lending Groups. Recognizing the high and escalating cost of education, required uniforms and supplies, Hands of Mothers began assisting with school fees for the children of these struggling women in 2018. We now provide school fees, mentoring and educational enrichment programs – such as ICT, English and sex education – to over 150 children each year. Our experience has shown that education is the key to creating a more equitable future in rapidly gentrifying Rwanda. Hands of Mothers is committed to helping to generate prosperity, promote health and foster peace in this extraordinary country.
