About Harlem Literacy Project
Harlem Reading Project promotes early childhood literacy by empowering parents and caregivers with skills and resources to support foundational literacy skills at home and to be effective partners in their child’s academic growth. WHO WE ARE Harlem Reading Project believes that the best way to teach a child to read starts at home. Since our founding, Harlem Reading Project has been committed to answering the question that many parents ask when they learn that their child is struggling to acquire literacy skills: "What can I do to help?” Harlem Reading Project is here to help. WHAT WE DO Finding great literacy support that includes parent support and that is accessible isn’t always easy. Harlem Reading Project guides parents through the process of helping their children learn to read. We believe that parents and teachers are both important to a child's academic growth. We have created a series of workshops to be implemented at schools, community organizations and libraries to provide simple tools for parents to utilize at home that will give their child a great foundation for learning. OUR IMPACT Harlem Reading Project has seen 100% of its families who participate in the program show growth in their reading skills. Parents love the structure and the ease of the sessions, and administrators love having the assurance that our workshops are aligned to standards and help parents contribute to learning.
