About Harlem Project
The Harlem Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization dedicated to helping underserved high school students across the United States navigate the college admissions and the financial aid process, including: - Mentorship - Financial assistance resources - College application guidance - Continuum of Support through college - Post-graduate career assistance The Harlem Project was created to help students in danger of having their educational dreams deferred owing to a lack of infrastructural support, guidance, and/or personal attention. The organization provides mentorship and one-on-one assistance to motivate, support, and propel students tp seek and obtain the higher education that can make their dreams a reality and create generational change. Mentorship and assistance includes college application assistance, financial aid resources, essay planning and editing, and a continuum of support from intake through college graduation and beyond, The organization derives its name from the Langston Hughes poem ‘Harlem’, in which the author ponders the question, “What happens to a dream deferred?” and then posits a few unsatisfactory outcomes before reaching the thought-provoking conclusion: “Or does it explode?“
