Harlena Warford was born and raised in Hoonah Alaska, lived in Hoonah all her life. She was instructed not only by her Father and Mother in the ways of “traditional holistic native medicine” but also by many of the Elders of Hoonah. One of the plants that was often used by the Elders was the Skunk Cabbage. Its name refers to the smell of the plant when it is in bloom and would hardly seem to apply after the spring pollination has taken its course. But what this plant did for many people who were in pain was nothing short of amazing. It seems to have a healing quality about it that can’t be ignored.
