About Harmony Community Cares
OUR MISSION: TO PLANT SEEDS OF LOVE AND CULTIVATE HOPE BY PROVIDING ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD, ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT, SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL SUPPORT, AND A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR PEOPLE IN NORTH LAWNDALE AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. Roots: Harmony Community Cares, NFP (HCC) sprouted from Harmony Community Church. Since 1991 the church has been committed to “loving and serving like Christ”. Since 1999 that love and service has been rooted in Chicago’s North Lawndale Community. From Peace Gatherings, to weekly food distribution, free tutoring services and a host of other community events, Harmony has been a beacon of light in North Lawndale. To deepen our roots within the community and further our reach beyond the church, Harmony Community Cares, NFP (HCC) was established as a 501(c)3 in 2018. We welcome people of all faiths, races, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientation and backgrounds. Beliefs: Harmony Community Cares believes in the value and potential of each individual. The organization is founded on nurturing each and every neighbor by creating an environment where they can be safe, healthy and educated. As an extension of our love, and a response to the needs of our community, we provide a safe haven and an activity space for the community, food for those in need, and academic enrichment for our youth and young adults. The HCC Food Pantry has been serving almost 200 families per week. HCC’s Tutoring, Intensive Summer Reading Clinic and Community Arts programs provide enrichment, educational tools and healthy meals our students need to achieve academic success. HCC brings food, the arts, music, academic enrichment and hope along with the belief that we are stronger and safer when we stand together.
