About Hats Off for Bootsie
OUR AIM To employ veterans who have retrained as film or theatre makers, so they can demonstrate the extraordinary character and capability of veterans who have overcome mental trauma or homelessness. OUR ETHOS At all times, our priority is to serve our beneficiaries, and for them to prosper. We are a tiny part of the broad spectrum of charities working with mental trauma overcomers and the homeless. Whenever possible, we will work alongside other charities. OUR APPROACH We are providing platforms on which veterans can be employed to tell their story and show their capability. They have a unique contribution to make in creating a more receptive, understanding and helpful environment to those overcoming homelessness and mental trauma. A significant part of their work is to counter the fear and stigma which cast doubt on their employability. FLAGSHIP EVENT Our flagship event is the run of a new play 'The Terminus', planned to open in the future. Its central character is a war veteran who sleeps rough on the concourse of a railway terminus. His heroic sense of humour and epic struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder form the play's main narrative. ”The idea is sound and the intent and ethos are selfless.” Brig. (ret) Charlie Hobson RM - Rock2Recovery “… a moving, highly original treatment of prescient themes with well-drawn characters: beautifully written.” Sally Woodcock - Founder and Artistic Director MESH theatre co. “… a first-class piece of writing by an author with a natural feel for the stage.” - Mark Glanville - Award-Winning Author and Journalist. "…an exceptional play … a wonderful piece of writing … the only play yet to attract us beyond our Shakespeare remit.” Jaclyn McLoughlin - Founder of UK & US Combat Veteran Players "Very vivid and moving.... I am excited by having some type of design involvement in its production." Paul Day, International Sculptor
