About HBCU PATHs
The HBCU PATHs program seeks to develop strategies and interventions that increase the success of new Assistant Professors at HBCUs at progressing through Tenure and Promotion. PATHs is an Alliance of four Institutions of Higher Education, 3 HBCUs (Tuskegee University, Jackson State University, and Mississippi State University), and a research partner (Oakland University). PATHs is funded by the AGEP and HBCU-UP programs of the National Science Foundation. New professors at the participating HBCUs can apply to become PATHs fellows, completing a 3-year residency during which they receive strong mentoring by disciplinary experts and PATHs personnel on issues ranging from successful effort distribution, managing professorial activities, developing a strong research program, securing external funding, networking, and maintaining work-life balance. Partnerships with the Department of Defense National Laboratories will ensure that PATHs fellows develop their potential as leading scientists in their field, providing invaluable opportunities for development of future scientists at HBCUs. All PATHs fellows are characterized by their high potential, fast progress in their professional trajectory, and for being role models as scientists of groups traditionally underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
