Still in the planning stages, Healing Hearts Crisis & Support Center will open in Raleigh, NC, and aims to assist those affected by rape and domestic violence by moving from victim to survivor through trauma-based individual and group counseling as well as psychiatry and medication management. Healing Hearts will have a dedicated social worker and free-of-charge legal counsel to assist victims going through the legal system to obtain protective orders and criminal proceedings from their abusers or rapists, prepare them for what to expect when seeing their abuser in court for the first time and repeatedly during criminal trials, and the social worker will be by their side from start to finish. Healing Hearts will offer services to our clients for complete mental well-being and provide opportunities for self-expression through yoga, creative writing, artwork, music, and time spent in nature. Healing Hearts eventually plans to purchase a property to use as a safe house for those needing to escape their abuser, provide friends and families with educational material on how best to support those who have been raped or abused, work with local and state officials about increasing punishment for repeat offenders, educating first responders and ensuring justice prevails for those affected by rape and abuse. Finally, Healing Hearts hopes to create an anger management course for the court systems to refer abusers to participate in to decrease the instances of domestic violence being repeated.
