About Health and Home Care Society of British Columbia (aka Care BC)
The Health and Home Care Society of BC (Care BC) is an independent and BC-based not-for-profit organization and a founding branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses. Since 1898 we have been taking care of British Columbians with healthcare initiatives tailored to the communities we serve. We continue this tradition of caring today through preventative and supportive health services that keep people healthy and in the comfort of their own homes. We offer 3 charitable services - Meals on Wheels (Western and Chinese), the Family Respite Centre, and the Community Integration Project - with help from our team of dedicated volunteers. Meals on Wheels (MOW) Our MOW program has served the community since 1967. In 1996, we added a Chinese Meals on Wheels (CMOW) service. Every weekday our volunteers deliver more than 450 meals and social contact to homebound people across Vancouver and Richmond. Volunteers also offer the comfort of a friendly visit and the reassurance of an informal check on the safety and well-being of meal recipients. Family Respite Centre (FRC) The FRC is the first independent, purpose-built, community-based respite centre in Canada, offering an Adult Day Program and Overnight Respite Program. Seniors with mental or physical frailties receive temporary care in a home-like environment while their caregivers get a break from their 24/7 responsibilities. Community Integration Project (CIP) The CIP assists people with newly acquired disabilities adapt to their housing and daily living needs while maintaining their quality of life within their home and community. Housing is a significant barrier for people with disabilities transitioning from rehabilitation to independent living – the CIP offers two specially-designed and equipped apartments to help during this process.
