About Healthy Eating and Nutrition Society

Founded by a group of enthusiastic health science students, HENS is a new University of Melbourne and Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences affiliated society with a goal to promote science-based healthy diets. Our objective is to provide a platform where students who are passionate about nutrition can connect and participate in our engaging events such as healthy food workshops, career seminars, “DIY food bowl”, “grow your own food”, “food and futsal” and more- a healthy mix of both educational and social events. Currently, diet-related diseases are one of the fastest growing threats to our public healthcare system, with an estimate of 2 out of 3 Australians being diagnosed with obesity. It is therefore undeniable that there has never been a more important time that people should become cognisant of the importance of making scientifically-sound diet choices. HENS, through a variety of our interactive and educational events, endeavours to instigate more discussion and interest in the field of nutrition, an initiative that we feel is necessary to combat the current diet epidemic. In doing so, we ultimately hope to inspire change in the unhealthy food choices that people often make and instead promote sustainable and healthy diets that will directly benefit all of our well-beings
