About Heartland Scholar House

Being a single parent in college isn’t easy - balancing classes, childcare, and work can be overwhelming. Heartland Scholar House, located in Central Indiana, provides the support and resources needed to earn a degree and build a better future. We are addressing the urgent issue of generational poverty in Central Indiana, where about 20% of households fall under the poverty line, and nearly half of households with children are headed by single parents. Heartland Scholar House is for single parents who are working toward higher education or career training while raising children. We serve any parents with an educational goal through educational coaching, family advocacy, and by connecting them to community-based services. Single parents who attend school full-time are eligible to be considered for program housing. With a strong support system in place, single parents not only earn degrees but also break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their children. No matter where you’re starting from, we’re here to help you build a future with more opportunities for you and your family.
