About Hearts for Health

Hearts for Health is a nonprofit organization that promotes accessible, engaging opportunities for pre-health students. Through our virtual shadowing program, we give pre-health students the opportunity to explore different areas of healthcare by inviting numerous healthcare providers to present their specialties. Speakers include physicians, PAs, NPs, and more. Virtual Shadowing occurs on Mondays and Thursdays weekly at 7pm CT, and no sign-up is required! Below are more programs that we offer: ▻ Medical Miracle Mission (3M): Be a patient companion & establish a 1-on-1 connection with a patient in need of company. Volunteers connect with patients through conversing, reading, playing board games & more! ▻ Student-Refugee Mentor Initiative (SRMI): Help refugees, immigrants, and non-native English speakers improve their English proficiency. You can either provide small group or 1-on-1 instruction ▻ Code Blue Mentorship (CBM): Offers pre-health students, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, mentorship for general advice and guidance that they wouldn’t have access to otherwise. Mentorship is offered to pre-med, pre-PA, pre-dental & pre-pharmacy students. Mentors & mentees meet 30 minutes per week or 1 hour every 2 weeks for at least 3 months. ▻ Patient Discharge Initiative (PDI): Serves to offer resources to patients, particularly those who are low-insured, uninsured and non-English speaking. Knowledge is sometimes very hard to obtain for patients, especially if they are not well versed in looking for it. Through PDI, volunteers help to collect and provide these resources to patients so they can leave the hospital without worry.
