About Hello! Caafi Telehealth

Hello! Caafi is a telehealth start-up, helping millions in Somalia gain access to essential health services in their local communities through our telehealth platform. We provide mobile-based, on-demand, high-quality health care regardless of an individual’s inability to pay. Specialty telehealth services and peer consultations are available for front-line health workers who work in rural areas or don’t have locally available specialists. Our purpose is to fill these critical gaps by harnessing the power of technology to facilitate health access for the estimated 92% of Somalis who use mobile phones. Hello! Caafi’s technology platform is designed to help the limited pool of health workers reach further, reduce the cost of access for patients and providers and potentially contribute to the sustainability of the health system. We built our telehealth system using our contextual knowledge of the country’s health system, input from patients and providers, and sensitivity towards cultural and social norms that shape health behaviors. As a social enterprise, our goals are guided by a simple principle, that basic health care is a human right.
