Hercinia Arts Collective creates and curates contemporary circus and multidisciplinary performances. With a strong focus on public art and outdoor experiences we strive to create work that is playful and imaginative, blending the spectacle of circus arts with other forms to create a visceral language, make meaningful experiences, and bring people into art. Our original creations have been showcased throughout Canada and internationally at a variety of locations including street festivals, art parties, galleries, theatre spaces, corporate events and public squares. Over the years, our focus has been particularly on outdoor performances, as a means to bring our art to a broader public who might not otherwise have access to artistic performances through conventional means. Our main investigation in performance is to use circus as a language through which to explore themes, characters or to tell stories. As a practice combining spectacle with risk and beauty, circus is an exciting language because it can communicate on such a visceral level. We believe strongly in the power of that language and in sharing it with as diverse an audience as possible.
