About Heroes Academy South Africa

The Heroes Academy provides ongoing self-development workshops and programs for boys between the ages of six and thirteen in low income areas in South Africa. Our aim is to develop character and build skills in male school students, with the aim of deconstructing tenets of toxic masculinity and promoting an understanding of positive masculinity, through coaching, mentoring and inspiring such boys to achieve their full potential. We facilitate workshops that teach young men and boys how to empower themselves through discipline, hard work, respect and courage, in the knowledge that their worth is solely defined by themselves and not by their circumstances. Our mission is to help reduce Gender Based Violence by teaching the boys of today how to become the men, and heroes, of tomorrow. Our programme seeks to foster leadership skills and positive self-development through a series of activities, including interactive play, sports, life skills and inspirational stories of real-life heroes. The programme aims to promote and cultivate an understanding of positive masculinity, consent, responsibility and courage in all participants. At Heroes Academy, we strongly believe that by uplifting, empowering and mentoring our youth, we can create a kinder, more progressive and tolerant society, that is not plagued by crime, gangsterism or substance abuse.
